Frequently asked questions

What is the teacher pay rise for 2026?

The government accepted a 3.5% award for teachers in England from 1 September 2026. The calculator uses the resulting September 2026 advisory M1-M6 and U1-U3 scale points.

Does this cover every school?

It covers the advisory classroom-teacher scales for maintained schools in England. Academies may set their own pay and leadership, leading-practitioner, SEN and teaching-and-learning responsibility payments are not included unless you enter them as additional pensionable pay.

How is Teachers' Pension deducted?

The calculator selects the 2026-27 member contribution tier from total pensionable pay. Contributions receive payroll tax relief, but do not reduce National Insurance or student-loan repayment earnings.

Why is this an annualised figure?

The published scale applies from 1 September 2026. Results show a full 12 months at that rate, rather than a blended April-to-August and September-to-March tax-year total.
