This notice explains how UK Tax Tools ("we", "us", "the site") collects and uses personal data. The site is operated from the United Kingdom and this policy is governed by the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

1. What we collect

We collect the following categories of data:

  • Calculator inputs — salary, age, filing circumstances, etc. These never leave your browser. They are stored in your URL (so you can share a link to a result) and may be persisted in localStorage on your device. We do not receive, transmit, or log them on any server.
  • Analytics — Google Analytics 4 collects anonymised usage data (page viewed, referrer, device type, country-level IP, session duration). See section 3.
  • Advertising — Mediavine and its advertising partners may set cookies to deliver and measure ads. See section 4.
  • Server logs — our hosting provider (Cloudflare Pages) logs request metadata (IP, user-agent, referer, timestamp) for up to 30 days for abuse prevention and debugging.
  • Email correspondence — if you email us, we keep the message until the matter is resolved (typically up to 12 months).

2. Lawful bases

  • Consent (UK GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)) — for advertising cookies. Where Mediavine shows its consent banner — in regions covered by the GDPR, UK GDPR, or similar consent laws — you can accept or reject personalised advertising there, and withdraw that consent at any time from the privacy link in it.
  • Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) — for server logs (fraud/abuse prevention and service reliability).
  • Consent/contract — for email correspondence you initiate.

3. Google Analytics 4

We use Google Analytics 4 (property G-402Z110JCT) to understand aggregate usage: which pages are viewed, where visitors arrive from, device type, country-level location and session length. Analytics runs only on the live uktax.tools site. IP addresses are truncated by Google before logging, and data retention in GA4 is set to the minimum permitted (2 months for event data, 14 months for user-level data). We never cross-reference analytics data with a named individual.

Google, as the data processor, may transfer data to the United States under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and UK Extension. See Google's Privacy Policy.

4. Advertising

This site is funded by advertising. We work with Mediavine, an advertising partner that serves and measures the ads on our pages. Mediavine and its advertising partners may use cookies, device identifiers and similar technologies to deliver ads, limit how often you see the same ad, and measure whether an ad was seen.

Those partners may process your IP address, browser and device type, approximate location and your interactions with ads, each under its own privacy policy. Mediavine's policy is at mediavine.com/privacy-policy, and the current list of partners is available from that banner where it is shown.

Where Mediavine shows its consent banner, it asks you to accept or reject personalised advertising before an advertising cookie is set, and personalised ads are not enabled unless you consent to them. You can change or withdraw that choice at any time from the privacy link in the banner. You can also opt out of third-party vendor cookies more broadly at youradchoices.com.

5. Cookies

A full list of cookies we may set, their purpose, and their duration is available on our Cookie Policy page. Where Mediavine's consent banner is shown, you can accept, reject, or change your advertising preferences at any time from the privacy link in it.

6. International transfers

Analytics and advertising data may be processed outside the UK/EEA (primarily in the United States). Transfers rely on the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or on the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.

7. Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to:

  • access the personal data we hold about you
  • request correction of inaccurate data
  • request erasure
  • restrict or object to processing
  • withdraw consent for cookie-based tracking at any time
  • lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk, 0303 123 1113)

To exercise any of these rights, you may lodge a complaint or request directly with the ICO (ico.org.uk, 0303 123 1113), who will liaise with the site operator on your behalf.

8. Children

UK Tax Tools is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with data, please contact us and we will delete it.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy to reflect changes in our practices, hosting, or the law. The "Last updated" date at the top indicates the most recent revision.

10. Complaints

UK Tax Tools is not required to appoint a Data Protection Officer. For privacy complaints or rights requests, contact the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk, 0303 123 1113), who is the UK supervisory authority for data-protection matters.
