Cash vs Company Car
Your company car has a taxable BIK value of £7,800 per year. To cover this tax cost, you would need a salary increase of £7,800 to break even (before National Insurance). Compare this against any cash allowance offered by your employer instead of the car.

Company car BIK % by CO2 (2026-27)
The appropriate percentage applied to the car's P11D list price. Zero-emission cars are 4% in 2026-27 (3% in 2025/26). Plug-in hybrids at 1–50 g/km are banded by their electric-only range, not by CO2 alone — from the same low rate on a 130+ mile car up to 16% under 30 miles. From 51 g/km the rate rises with CO2 to a 37% cap, and non-RDE2 diesels add a 4% surcharge (still capped at 37%).
| CO2 emissions | Appropriate (BIK) % |
|---|---|
| Electric / 0 g/km | 4% |
| 1–50 g/km, 130+ mile electric range | 4% |
| 1–50 g/km, under 30 mile electric range | 16% |
| 51–54 g/km | 17% |
| 55–59 g/km | 18% |
| 70 g/km | 21% |
| 90 g/km | 24% |
| 110 g/km | 28% |
| 130 g/km | 32% |
| 150 g/km | 36% |
| 160 g/km and above | 37% |
Worked example — £35,000 electric car, higher-rate driver (2026-27)
BIK value = £35,000 × 4% = £1,400. Taxed at 40% → £560 a year (£47/month). A 110 g/km petrol equivalent would be taxed on 28% of list price instead.
